Casio Ex-word

img_1048One of the things I’m most anxious about as my trip to Japan approaches at alarming speed is my skill with the Japanese language. I can usually find my way through any given anime with minimal confusion just because of the fact that I’ve taken 2 years of the language, but that’s all spoken language.

So, what about Kanji? What’s an American in Japan to do without a working knowledge of around 1,500 commonly used Chinese characters? Well, the answer used to be crying and feeling forsaken. Nowadays, though, Casio and other companies have an electronic solution for students like myself who have a working knowledge of Japanese and a dearth of Kanji knowledge.

With the help of this device, I’ll be navigating the streets of Kyoto, Akihabara, Osaka, and any place my four and a half months take me during my stay in Japan. That said, this is a “Hello, world” post, and from here out I’ll give a statement of purpose.

This is my personal study-abroad blog, not to be confused with the group study abroad blog that I contribute to. This one, I hope, will have a personal side to it, and showcase any pictures I take during the course of my stay, thus the photo-blog template.

Of course, I’ll be updating my anime blog on a regular basis, though I might have some strikingly similar posts on the two of them.

Anyway, I leave on the 24th of March, and I’ll be there the 25th, so look forward to a post on the 26th if I’m not incapacitated!
